Initial Evaluation
What to Expect
What can I expect during my Initial evaluation for a TMJ or Craniofacial disorder ?
An initial and thorough evaluation for a TMJ or Craniofacial disorder includes:
Review of findings on Imaging (panoramic xray, Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) ), consultation on the patient’s chief complaint and related symptoms, clinical examination, determination of diagnoses and discussion of appropriate treatment options. The clinical examination may involve assessment of posture, the TMJoints and connective tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) in the head, face and neck. More detailed imaging ie MRI (brain, cervical or TMJs) ,CT scan (cervical or TMJs) etc may be ordered if needed before a final diagnoses and treatment plan can be determined.
